Riyadh’s northward expansion requires the development of a new road system with greater capacity to handle Riyadh’s growing traffic problems. The project is part of the local authorities’ investment program to change the image of the city and transform its urban mobility, more specifically the main access road to the city Abi Bakr Al Siddiq.
We participated in the design and technical assistance to the works of more than 10 km of this up to 6-lane highway that included two road intersections at different levels. The works included several viaducts of up to 80 meters span and a cut and cover tunnel. The scope of the design included road geometry, drainage, pavements, signage, lighting, utilities and landscaping.
The new road interchanges designed were mainly the underpass on Anas Bin Malik Road and the link to King Salman Road, the main connection to the airport. The total budget for the planned works amounted to €162 million.
