The municipality of Legutio, with an approximate area of 46 km2, is located about 14 km north of Vitoria-Gasteiz, bordering the municipalities of Ziogitia, Arratzua-Ubarrundia and Aramaio and has a population of 1,832 inhabitants in 2020. Legutio currently has a wastewater treatment system to serve the core of the municipality through three main networks, corresponding to the main urban core network, the network around Zabalain and the network that discharges to the Goikoetxe pumping station.
Regarding these discharges, it should be mentioned that in December 2016 the “Project for the Improvement of the Legutio Sanitation Unitary Network” was drafted, whose works were executed in 2019, eliminating the points of discharge of sewage into the reservoir. It also included the construction of a storm system to regulate the flow to the Zabalain pumping station in order to avoid overloading the flow and improve the quality of the water discharged in the area surrounding the reservoir.
Likewise, the current rainwater collectors were diverted and joined, which will cross the N-240 road through the subsoil by means of a drive, discharging the rainwater below the crossing with the road, in a ditch through which it will flow to the planned discharge point in the vicinity of the Urrunaga reservoir.
Based on the above, the purpose of this project is to propose a total separate system for the municipal network and to adapt the existing pumping stations in Legutiano, Goikoetxe and Zabalain to prevent discharge into the Urrunaga reservoir.
Regarding the water treatment, the optimal alternative for its connection has to be studied, and the following options have been proposed: the extension of the Goain WWTP, which treats the water from the Legutio and Goain nuclei and the Goain Industrial Estate through an active sludge system with prolonged aeration, discharging it into the Santa Engrazia river, and the extension of the network piping to the Crispijana WWTP.
