2020-2021
The objective of the construction project is to reduce road congestion on the identified section in order to improve the functionality of the BI-30 section. It also aims to reduce travel times and improve movements (junctions and junctions), increasing road safety levels.
To this end, all the necessary studies and analyses have been carried out to identify the existing problems and to propose solutions to each of them. On the one hand, the traffic analysis was carried out, after collecting data by means of traffic volume gauging and traffic modelling using the AIMSUN traffic simulation program.
On the other hand, it is also worth mentioning the previous detailed road safety study carried out in order to propose the necessary actions. These actions have been developed in the project to achieve a substantial improvement in road safety. In relation to this aspect, the analysis of the conditions of the existing containment systems stands out, projecting their adaptation to regulations, including the adaptation of the lateral barriers that currently exist in the various existing structures in the area.
The project includes, in addition to the construction of several concrete walls and structures, the definition of the transversal extension (by approximately 3.85 m) of the Good Shepherd Bridge, with a total length of 79 m (spans of 21.50+36.00+21.50). It is made by means of a metal deck structure based on shaped plates, with an in situ concrete slab to be implemented by means of prefabricated slabs. The project also contemplates the diversion of two supply pipes of 600 mm and 400 mm diameters of HAC and FD respectively, which are affected by the foundations of the extension of the Buen Pastor viaduct. This makes it necessary to divert them through the existing underpass under Buen Pastor street with the pertinent adaptations of the accesses to it.
Finally, a Simplified Environmental Impact Study has been carried out to avoid, as far as possible, the generation of environmental impacts in the design and during the construction of the works, defining the corrective measures and the corresponding environmental monitoring plan.
