The connection of the A-15 motorway with the N-I road in Andoain, heading south to Vitoria-Gasteiz, is currently made by a single lane through the Bazkardo interchange. This infrastructure records a 63,000 veh/day, of which 8,200 correspond to heavy vehicles of over 12 tons. The route is not only sinuous, but also encloses a small radius curve intersection for such an intense traffic, hindering the manoeuvrability of large articulated trucks, generating, at certain times, +600m queue lengths.
The main objective of the project is to find a solution to this problem, by studying different possible alternatives, both from the road safety and environmental point of view. The aim is to ensure that the link of the A-15 with the N-I upgrades from the current configuration of a single lane to having 2 lanes and guaranteeing this way, a minimum connection speed of 80 km/h, eradicating the traffic queues that are produced today.
This entire process will require the study and design of a solution of approximately 3.5 kilometres road that crosses the urban environment of Andoain, requiring the possible design of an important viaduct, the expansion of a bridge over the Oria River and the resolution of numerous convergences and divergences of current and future traffic flow.
