Over the years there have been several landslides in various sections of the docks of the Bilbao Estuary, in its stretch through the municipality of Bilbao. The institutions involved decided to carry out a diagnosis of the real situation of the walls and structures on the banks of the estuary. As a result of this study, commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, the Bilbao City Council and the Port Authority of Bilbao determined the most urgent areas for action, as well as the solutions that could be proposed for each area.
For the most immediate actions, two files were tendered by the Bilbao City Council, the first one covering actions between Urazurrutia and the City Hall, and the second one containing actions in the Uribitarte docks.
The object of the present project includes the constructive definition for the actions in the second area of Uribitarte, consisting of different typologies depending on whether the actions are carried out on the structures of the piers, demolishing the entire existing structure or only acting on the upper slab.
The pier consists of a concrete structure supported on prefabricated and driven piles built around 1925. According to the requirements, the proposal is developed consisting in the construction of a new pier by means of successive gantries.
